Jesus, Interrupted: Revealing the Hidden Contradictions in the Bible (And Why We Don't Know About Them) (Hardcover)

by Bart D. Ehrman (Author)

Product Description

Picking up where Bible expert Bart Ehrman's New York Times bestseller Misquoting Jesus left off, Jesus, Interrupted addresses the larger issue of what the New Testament actually teaches—and it's not what most people think. Here Ehrman reveals what scholars have unearthed:

The authors of the New Testament have diverging views about who Jesus was and how salvation works

The New Testament contains books that were forged in the names of the apostles by Christian writers who lived decades later

Jesus, Paul, Matthew, and John all represented fundamentally different religions

Established Christian doctrines—such as the suffering messiah, the divinity of Jesus, and the trinity—were the inventions of still later theologians

These are not idiosyncratic perspectives of just one modern scholar. As Ehrman skillfully demonstrates, they have been the standard and widespread views of critical scholars across a full spectrum of denominations and traditions. Why is it most people have never heard such things? This is the book that pastors, educators, and anyone interested in the Bible have been waiting for—a clear and compelling account of the central challenges we face when attempting to reconstruct the life and message of Jesus.

A MIND-BLOWING, Shocking work, grounded in solid scholarship, March 3, 2009
By Mark S. (New York)

Bart Ehrman, the author of the blockbuster Misquoting Jesus, has published another eye popping book. Grounded in solid scholarship yet is very accessible to lay people as well. This book should be read by everyone who reads the bible. This book is very engaging and very easy to read. This is one of those rare illuminating books you could read at one evening.

Ehrman explains how certain people within the conservative families were taught to read and interpret the bible. Their view is indeed that the bible is infallible and without problems. Those who were raised in such households seem to experience mind shocks later on if they choose to open their eyes to the real scholarship regarding the bible. What you hear in theological seminaries and in serious scholarship is far from what you were told to believe in church.

This book unveils the hidden reality within the pages of the bible. People who come from suddle conservative backgrounds are about to be stunned. Generally, people are taught to read the bible in a certain way and whenever things seem perplexing, pastors are asked to provide answers. Even if the problem is indeed recognized, the sore truth is that the pastor will explain things away and conceal the problem. Pastors are the last people to be asked in search of an unbiased reality.

Ever wondered why does the bible spin with contradictions, many contradictions? Some are dangerous and faith ending contraditions?
The fact of the matter is that the four gospels in the New Testament are only a portion of many circulating gospels at the time. Written by different people with different mindsets who had different religions and theologies who lived at different times. This wonderous work reveals many inner contradictions that proves the minds of the author's' of the bible. By examing the text of teh gospels, Ehrman reveals some scary, stunning facts within the gospels.

The bible was written decades after the time of Jesus. has been published over span of many years and was not recognized as authoratative until long afterwards. There are many forgeries in early christianity and some found their way to the bible astonishingly. The idea that the bible is inerrant by its very words is massive misconeption, unfortunately, espoused by many fundamentalist christians to this day. Those who embarce such beliefs are influenced by culture and not reality. This book addresses this issue in a very engaging style.

questions of who invented christianity and how was it invented and developed is addressed in engaging, provocative book. Jesus' alleged divintiy, salvation, inerrancy, trinity is the invention of later theologians. This is a wonderous book everyone should read.
